The Pittsburgh Pirates squeaked to victory over the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday at PNC Park with the Pirates earning the win 3 to 2. Pirates pitcher Daniel McCutchen (8.87 ERA) got the win, while Cole Hamels (4.07 ERA) took the loss for the Phillies. Daniel McCutchen went 5.1 innings for the Pirates, allowed 6 hits, one home run and one earned run with no walks and 4 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Pirates was Javier Lopez (2.76), D.J. Carrasco (3.98), and Evan Meek (0.98). The Phillies’s starter Cole Hamels went 7 innings, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Jose Contreras (2.19) also pitched for the Phillies. With the win, McCutchen’s record goes to 1-3, while Hamels is at 6-7. Octavio Dotel earned the save for the Pirates, bringing his saves up to 17.
In addition to the 3 runs, the Pirates scored 5 hits and committed 2 errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Pirates, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Phillies didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Raul Ibanez could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Phillies got 2 runs, 8 hits and 2 errors.
