The Cincinnati Reds squeaked to victory over the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday at Great American Ballpark with the Reds earning the win 4 to 3. Reds pitcher Arthur Rhodes (1.09 ERA) got the win, while Roy Halladay (2.42 ERA) took the loss for the Phillies. Aaron Harang went 6.1 solid innings for the Reds, allowed 8 hits, one home run and 3 earned runs with one walk and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Reds was Logan Ondrusek (5.89). The Phillies’s starter Roy Halladay went 8 innings, allowed 13 hits, 2 home runs and 4 earned runs with no walks and 10 strikeouts. With the win, Rhodes’s record goes to 3-2, while Halladay is at 9-7. Francisco Cordero earned the save for the Reds, bringing his saves up to 21.
In addition to the 4 runs, the Reds scored 13 hits and committed no errors. Ramon Hernandez led the Reds in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Jay Bruce’s 2 hits, and Jonny Gomes with 2. The Phillies didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Jimmy Rollins could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Phillies got 3 runs, 9 hits and no errors.
