Cubs defeat Phillies at Wrigley Field

The Chicago Cubs faced the the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday at Wrigley Field with the Cubs winning 11 to 6. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Cubs tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 17 runs! Talk about excitement! Cubs pitcher Tom Gorzelanny (3.12 ERA) got the win, while Roy Halladay (2.40 ERA) took the loss for the Phillies. Tom Gorzelanny went 6.2 solid innings for the Cubs, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 5 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Cubs was Andrew Cashner (2.61), and James Russell (4.13). The Phillies’s starter Roy Halladay went 6 innings, allowed 7 hits, 2 home runs and 5 earned runs with no walks and 3 strikeouts. J.C. Romero (3.38), David Herndon (4.18), and Danys Baez (4.46) also pitched for the Phillies. With the win, Gorzelanny’s record goes to 5-5, while Halladay falls to 10-8.

In addition to the 11 runs, the Cubs managed 14 hits and committed one error. Starlin Castro and Tyler Colvin tied for most hits for the Cubs with 3 hits, followed by Jeff Baker with 2 hits. The Phillies didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Phillies managed 6 runs, 9 hits and 2 errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Ed Hickox, Field Culbreth, Marty Foster and Gary Cederstrom. There were 39,333 Cubs ticket holders in attendance at Wrigley Field.
